Position Description

Provides evening and weekend operational support for the Frank Southern Ice Arena. Assists with staff oversight, basic facility operations, skate sharpening, concessions supply management, and addressing minor customer or staff issues. Acts as an on-site presence to ensure facility standards are upheld and staff are supported in real-time. Reports directly to the Ice Arena Manager and helps ensure safe, efficient, and welcoming experiences for all patrons and programs. Duties include:

Provide on-site operational coverage during evenings and weekends
Assist with training and mentoring new ice arena staff
Operate and support skate sharpening duties as needed
Support ice resurfacer operations or communicate issues with resurfacing team
Monitor facility cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness
Check in with program staff and identify any logistical issues or support needs
Track minor incidents or operational concerns and report to manager
Ensure smooth coordination between rentals, public sessions, and in-house programs

Education

High school education or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in recreation facility operations, ice arena staffing, or leadership roles preferred.

Training/Special Skills

Basic understanding of ice arena operations and programming
Comfort using ice resurfacer or willingness to learn
Strong communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills
Ability to monitor and support multiple programs and staff members simultaneously
Reliable, calm under pressure, and organized

License/Certification

CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain. Ice resurfacer experience preferred but not required.

Hours

Average 20-30 hours per week, primarily evenings and weekends.
SEASON: September–March with possible limited summer hours.

Salary

$18.40 per hour
